Industry Leading Expertise

Our 80+ years of science-based industry and wood protection knowledge delivers unparalleled quality control, product performance, and reliability.

Quality ties start with quality timber.

Your final product can be no better than the initial input. Standards must then be carefully managed and maintained during the entire process to ensure the highest quality products.

Anchored on 80+ years of wood science, lumber production, and natural resource experience, our team provides unparalleled quality, technical support, and customer experience.

1. Timber Purchase and Harvest

We source special tracks of Southern Yellow Pine that have been managed for quality and density. This almost exclusively consists of Dense Select Structural, and Dense Select timbers that are slow growing and managed with proven silviculture methodology to produce a healthy forest and healthy trees. We follow quality control tree profile protocols that minimize defects and harvest with advanced techniques to minimize defects.

2. Log Inventory Management

Our “first-in-first-out” approach to managing log inventory minimizes degradation in the log yard. Proper maintenance and cleaning protocols minimize staining, insects, and other challenges.

3. Primary Breakdown

Our equipment is designed and calibrated to produce quality material that is to the size and standard specifications needed to produce the high-end material required for specialty railroad projects. Our quality control methods, implemented in real-time during this process, minimize manufacturing defects.

4. Secondary Breakdown and other Manufacturing

As part of our quality control programs, we determine the grade of the timber and which face of each timber will receive dapping and/or other secondary manufacturing.

At this stage, we highly recommend Borate Rods and End Plates be applied per standards established with customers and end users.

5. Kiln Drying

Our timbers are kiln-dried utilizing proprietary techniques and schedules to minimize defects and maximize efficiency. These kilns are specially designed for large timbers.

6. Packaging and Handling

After drying is complete, our timbers are thoroughly inspected, packaged per the customer’s standard. ID tags are placed on each timber. Timbers are loaded and shipped to treatment plants.

7. Preservative Treatment

Timbers are placed in a treatment cylinder and treated with the specified product (creosote, copper naphthenate, CCA, or borates) following the standards dictated by the customer. Sample cores are extracted from each charge of timbers to determine chemical penetration and retention.

8. Pre-Plating & Final Packaging

Timbers are arranged by number and pre-plated, when required, with plates specified by the customer. Timbers are packaged in order, per customer specifications, loaded on trucks, and delivered to GPS-coordinated sites.
